About this program

Developed and delivered by EYESTAR. The broadest and most accessible entry point into the EYESTAR Conflict Management Series — designed for individuals and organisations seeking a whole-workforce baseline in recognising, preventing and de-escalating conflict.

What is Personal Safety & De-Escalation?

Practical skills for everyday situations — and the ones that aren't.

Personal Safety & De-Escalation is the broadest and most accessible entry point into the EYESTAR Conflict Management Series. It is designed for individuals and organisations seeking practical skills to recognise emerging conflict, communicate effectively, reduce escalation and make safer decisions.

The course is relevant to anyone who may encounter challenging behaviour, conflict or escalating situations — at work, in public or in everyday life. It does not include restraint, physical intervention or control techniques. The focus is recognition, communication, de-escalation, boundaries and safe disengagement.

A whole-workforce approach

One workforce. One baseline.

A whole-workforce approach gives people the skills to recognise and influence situations earlier — before they become more serious. Level 1 enables organisations to establish a consistent baseline across the workforce. Different roles can then progress to the level of capability their risk requires.

This is not about eliminating conflict. It is about giving every person in your organisation the awareness and communication skills to recognise what is happening and respond more effectively.

One workforce. One baseline. Different roles can then progress to the level of capability their risk requires.

Useful at work and in life

Better recognition. Better judgement. Better decisions — in the workplace, in public and in everyday situations.

Supports your WHS obligations

Training is one control, not the whole answer. It supports your duties under the WHS Act 2020 (WA) — it doesn't discharge them.

Frameworks are referenced for consistency of structure and terminology. Training supports, but does not by itself discharge, an employer's work health and safety duties.

Work Health and Safety

Supports a whole-workforce approach to managing workplace conflict risk.

Employers in WA must manage risks to workers' physical and psychological health. Violence, aggression and conflict are recognised psychosocial hazards under the Work Health and Safety (General) Regulations 2022 (WA). Providing training is a named control in the WorkSafe WA codes of practice.

When do you need more than Level 1?

PSD establishes the baseline. OVA develops and validates practical capability.

Where personnel face greater occupational violence and aggression risk or require demonstrated practical response capability, EYESTAR Occupational Violence & Aggression provides deeper practical training, scenario application and assessment.
